Interview met Roos Pulskens — ‘Inspired by Dudok’ (dudok.org)

NIEUW Kralingen

For this project architectural studio based in Rotterdam - Architectuurmaken was inspired by the modernist architecture of old Kralingen with sculptural volumes, deep grooves, rhythm and an accent on corners. The mass of the homes is created by the use of masonry in a joint-free pattern and strict detailing.

A unique element of the design are the striking glazed ornaments. Following the design idea of Architectuurmaken together with Fabrique Ceramique we have designed and hand-manufactured ornaments that were glazed with Waste Glaze (FORZ®Glaze). The homes are enriched with these waste-based ornaments. Each ornament has its own function and together they celebrate nature-inclusive measures. The design elements include nesting boxes for bats and birds, gargoyles and house numbers for the residents.
